My child’s mother is taking me to court for a raise in child support and wants me to do visitations, what are my rights?

  • By: David Bliven

Q: My child’s mother said I missed a court date but I never got any letters, she said she’s taking me to court for a raise in child support and for visitation. I know that paying child support is my obligation but I wanted to know if visitation was also an obligation, If I’m paying child support do I also have to have visitations or can I deny that?

A: Visitation is a right, but not an obligation. But bear mind mind, if she’s not available to care for the child, then she can additionally assess you with your share of childcare. Schedule a consult with a Bronx Family Law attorney for a full assessment.
