Q- My son is 18 and left for Paris Island. I currently have a court date to modify/ terminate the support order. If the information is true and he is discharged would I still have to pay child
support ?
A– It depends. Did the child move the Paris Island to live & is he working a full-time job (& thus self-supporting)? Did he enroll in the Marines? If the answer to either of these questions is “yes” then the child would appear to be emancipated. If the Court agrees, then the magistrate will terminate support & would would not continue to pay support for that child.
