Can I Move 20 Miles (Radius) Outside Rockland County As The Court Documents Specify?

Q: This is what my custody agreement says verbatim “Parties agree that the Father will not relocate to a distance more than twenty five miles outside of the New York City Metropolitan area, which includes the five boroughs of New York City, Nassau, Westchester, Rockland, Essex and Passaic counties without the written consent of the Mother or court order”

A: If that’s what the document says, then moving 20 miles form the border of Rockland would appear to be consistent with the agreement. That said, you should still provide notice to the other parent of the impending move. Schedule a consult with a Bronx Child Custody attorney for a full assessment.
