The mother of my alleged child didn’t inform me when she gave birth and refuses to allow a DNA test or let me see the child. What can I do in this situation?

  • By: David Bliven

Q: I  slept with this girl and she became pregnant and she told me 2 months later that she’s keeping the child and told me it’s my kid and to start buying things for him from now and even had a gender reveal. I started talking to another girl and she became my girlfriend and she lives with me my alleged baby mother is upset that I didn’t tell her I had a girlfriend when she told me she was pregnant until a week later. Shes so angry about that, that she cut me off and didn’t inform me when she gave birth to him, neither is she willing to take a DNA test to determine if the baby is mine and made me buy a bunch of expensive baby stuff and doesn’t even allow me to see him she completely cut me out of her and my sons life because I have a girlfriend but we were never together when the baby was made. Is it a way I can get a DNA test ordered by the court to see if the child is mine because I really want to be in his life and raise him as my son because I’m his father. I’m only 21 years old going on 22 and this will be my first child and I really want to be there for him if he is mines.

A: Your remedy is to file a paternity petition & request a DNA test via the courts. If it comes back that you’re the father, you can then proceed to file a visitation petition. Schedule a consult with a Bronx Child Support attorney for a full assessment.
