My Son Was Appointed A Child Attorney By The Court. What Should I Tell Him Before He Meets With The Child Attorney?

Q: My son will be talking with a court appointed child attorney today. What do I tell my son the reason is for the meeting with the attorney? My son does not know of the legal case with my ex-husband as I have tried to shield him from legal matters. I know my ex-husband has spoken with my son and tried to tell him things so my ex-husband can win the case and sway my son in a ‘brain-washing’ way. Thank you for your help.

A: You should simply let him know that Mom & Dad are going through a court case and you’ll be taking him to a lawyer to be interviewed. You should not talk to him about custody or visitation issues, however. Schedule a consult with a White Plains Child Custody attorney for a full assessment.
