My ex and I made a notarized letter for a child support agreement but now it’s not enough. Will it uphold in court?

  • By: David Bliven

Q: We wrote out a letter for him to give me a certain amount a month. I’m now realizing it’s not enough. Will the letter hold up in court?

A: “Letters” in themselves are unenforceable. The way you get an enforceable child support arrangement is: (a) have a legally-enforceable agreement drafted, (b) have same incorporated into a court order. Your alternative is to simply file a child support petition with Family Court. Schedule a consult with a Bronx Child Support attorney for a full assessment.
