Is a disabled parent who is a defendant in a child support proceeding entitled to an attorney?

  • By: David Bliven

Q: Due to disability I do not have the ability to get to the courthouse often to use computers there, lacking funds on a fixed SSD income, no background in law, in an effort to deliver a fair proceeding, how likely would it be for the court to assign an attorney to a defendant in a child support case in supreme court.

A: The Court does not generally assign an attorney specifically on the child support issue. You may nevertheless qualify for an attorney on the child custody/visitation issues however. Call a Westchester Child Support Attorney for more information
